Monitor horizontal and vertical displacements of a large earthen wall.
Challenges:
Monitored multiple points along the vertical face of wall. After completion of the earthen wall, a several hundred foot section of the wall failed. The failure created a vertical and lateral displacement of the wall. Walter Schoel Engineering Co., Inc. was immediately called in to set monitoring points along the face of the wall. The face was manually monitored daily and weekly until the wall stabilized.
The wall is continuing to be monitored semiannually. Approximately 50 points were installed and monitored.
