Challenges:
Permitting through FEMA and the Corp of Engineers. Complex flood modeling. Working in the vicinity of an active runway.
Working with the Birmingham Airport Authority, Schoel prepared a FEMA Conditional Letter of Map Revision for 2000 foot runway extension to satisfy NEPA requirements on Tributary 33 to Village Creek at the Birmingham International Airport. In addition, a new hydraulic model of flooding of Village Creek at the Birmingham International Airport was created. This work was performed to correctly show flooding for observed storms at the Airport.
